Re: [sibrob] Orthochaeta dissimilis

Hi Judy,

In response to the request for information about bud fly damage, I've experienced an increasing presence of this pest and damage the past few years.  I grow a lot of Siberians and a varied assortment of species and species crosses.  The bud fly larvae really enjoy chewing on nonbearded iris buds.

My plants are mainly in mulched beds and my climate zone is 4 in the hills of the Southern Tier of New York State.  About ten years ago I had a little problem with bud fly for a year or so and then there was no damage for several years.  Now I have a lot of damage with last year being the worst I can remember.  We have been having warmer winters with less snow cover but I'm not sure if there is any correlation.
