Hi Dorothy, in winter we do not water the trays unless the weather is warm
and very dry - it might happen twice per winter. You could probably avoid
that by mulching with pine needles, but then there are problems with
misplacing signs or cross tags when you remove the mulch.
In spring we water every day. When the temperatures rise into the eighties
(Farenheit) with sun, we water twice a day. We keep pots that need watering
near the hose to take good care of them.
I don't like to see the seeds dry out, but they might be able to handle short
dry periods in winter. In spring, especially after they start germinating,
they need to be kept moist.
One thing I learned is that seeds left on the soil surface over winter die
one hundred percent. fMarty
