ACTIVE DUTY (Stahly '99) is repeat blooming here. This is the first
year it bloomed so it was a nice treat.
Two tetraploids from Currier McEwen that started blooming on June
26th, PEG EDWARDS and TIFFANY LASS are still blooming fairly
strongly.
And Anna Mae Miller's SWIRLING LAVENDER (diploid) is still going
since June 28th.
Last year, TIFFANY opened on June 19th - exactly one week earlier.
TIFFANY LASS is registered at 28" (71cm) but is blooming here at 41".
Do the hybridizers revamp the height in the checklist where
warranted? This is a large height differential. Worried that T.L.
will not produce blooms next year with the over 45 (!) bloomstalks on
its clump this year (it may be more than 45, I got dizzy counting
that high. :)
Strangely. PEG EDWARDS is registered at 36" (91cm) and blooms here
shorter ...only 32" and even then the blooms are below the foliage
this so the pretty blue blossoms are carried at about 28-29". Last
year it was taller but I don't have its height recorded.
Nice cool day here and I am supposed to be digging new beds for the
onslaught of irises and daylilies expected any day. :-(
Cheers,
Ellen
