For most practical purposes, gypsum will be neutral to your beardless irises. 
Gypsum is calcium sulfate which has a very low solubility. Gypsum will provide 
some calcium. Gypsum does combine with the clay to improve soil texture. That 
is beneficial to anyone digging in the beds. I have planted beardless in former 
TB beds that were heavily treated with gypsum and experienced no problems.
