The tallest bud on 'Snow Prince' sorta opened today. This one bloom is different and I
went out in the rain to see if the view from the window was accurate. It was and the
falls on this one bloom are definitely yellow...I have had 'Snow Prince' since it was
introduced and examine pretty closely each year since it is usually the first one to
open. Of course, the buds are yellow on S.P. but usually the falls open white or at least
creamy white...I should march in to the other room and check the Checklist to see the
description.
Anyway, it is an amoena today. (I almost typed amoeba which it is not :-)
Sue and Claire P. talked about what to buy for branching and better bloom or longer
bloom.
Nothing beats scouring those catalog descriptions and paying particular attention to the
ones like this one from Eartheart Gardens: 'White Prelude' (McEwen '93) tetraploid, 36",
VE - VL, RE: The earliest white Siberian to bloom in our Harpswell gardens and also the
last: 6" white ruffled and crimped flowers have pleasing, open form and 11 weeks of
bloom. $10.00
This gives a long bloom period plus it might be a repeat bloomer for you as indicated
with RE.
Sharon Whitney of Eartheart states this in the catalog: "Unless other stated, all of the
cultivars listed in this catalog have 1 branch with 3 to 4 buds and are fertile...."
Ellen (yes, I did order White Prelude and also Ever Again and more...)
