Re: Short sibs

My 'Purple Prose' is about 18-24 inches, which dense, healthy growth and
numerous flowers and buds right now, as in the past few years. Other
different clones a foot or two away from this 'Purple Prose' under
discussion are more of the usual siberian height, of about 3 to 4 feet high.

This particular 'Purple Prose' plant was acquired from a local retail
nursery as a pot-grown plant in good health, and suffered no setback at any
known point under my care. 'Butter and Sugar,' 'Summer Sky,' and 'Indy' are
nearby, and are towering above the Purple Prose.

A possibility, I suppose, is that it is mislabeled. My particular 'Purple
Prose' has very ruffled, very full-formed rich purple flowers of the sort
expected of relatively recent breeding trends. I have no other reason than
plant height, however, to suggest that it is labeled incorrectly.

Setback during establishment could be a factor in short stature in some of
my other plants, however. After shocking a division of 'Sky Mirror' rather
badly after getting it in the mail, it has finally bloomed for the first
time in about 4-5 years. It has normal flowers but has a very short stature.
In fact, it is not much taller than my healthy 'Little Papoose' dwarf
siberian growing a couple of feet away. Based on height, my specimen of 'Sky
Mirror' could almost be classified as a dwarf siberian, except that it has
normal flowers. Rather nice true blue ones I might add.
