Relative to the lime part of the question.
The lime definitely could be a major contributing cause to the Siberians
poor performance. A pH test would be recommended. However sulfur and Ironite
(ferrous sulfate) should correct the problem and be safe for the Siberians
even without a test. The high pH of the limestone can make critical
nutrients essentially unavailable. Contact local county Agricultural
Commissioner's office about testing. In the past, this type of testing was
generally free but with budget tightening may no longer be free. A pH test
should not be very expensive if there is a fee. I can get a complete soil
analysis with recommendations for under $30.
