Last year was the first year that I tried keeping carry over potted
Siberians in a pan of water, in the shade next to a rhodadendrum that got
watered more than anything else on the property. Worked very well until
September when a customer purchased all of the carry overs. The 5 carry
overs that I currently have are in the same location and even same pan as
last year.
Also last year, put all newly purchased wholesale Siberians in pots and then
put the pots into a kiddie pool with about 3" of water. That worked well
also until it rained 4 to 6" and all of the pots were underwater. Since it
was raining heavily, I did not notice that the pots were all under water for
a week or so. One cultivar did not survive to spring but all of the rest
were fine.
Of course my situation is one of high heat and no summer rain. I consider
keeping potted Siberians adequately watered during the summer to be my
biggest challenge with potted Siberians.
