Interesting you should mention green caterpillars.  I found a couple of 
green caterpillars curled up in the soil while I was pulling weeds in the 
Sib bed the other day.  I didn't want to destroy them, thinking they 
might be butterfly larvae, but now I'm wondering if they might be the 
critters responsible for the loss of those buds.  Hmmm.
