Perry's Pygmy, maybe

Hi folks,
The attachment is a photo of an iris that came to me from a gardening
friend here in Ithaca; he says it is Perry's Pigmy. Over the years I have
twice thought I had PP, or its offspring. One was from the SIGNA seed
exchange; I got two mature plants, both of which were
non-descript sanguinea types about 24" in height. I also had a 15"
blue-violet dwarf which I thought might be PP. I thought I had nailed it
by process of elimination, by studying the checklist. Eventually I
realized that there are a lot of dwarf cv's out there, and the checklist
description of Perry's Pygmy is so vague that there was really no way to
have confidence in the ID.
The plant in the photo is a smallish sibirica type, kind of similar to
Little Blue Sparkler or Papillon. In my friend's garden it was about 20"
tall, which is very short for a sibirica, but it may be blooming short this
year due to the weather. The browning bracts in the photo are most likely
due to the clump just having been divided & transplanted. My friend got it
from Elizabeth Sheldon, the garden writer.
Does any one have a Perry's Pigmy with good provenance? Is it anything
like this photo and description?
	Ken
