The dark purple lines through the signal are one key as is the tendency to
show a stem which is hollow in places. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but all
of the Siberians I checked showed hollow stems while the JIs consistently
showed solid stems.
The mere fact that it's thriving is also a key indicator that it's hybrid.
I've gone through a number of seedling JI control groups and all have died
within a year of sprouting. JI's struggle here in our sandy soil and it
appears that most are dead again this spring. We average 16" of
precipitation per year with most of that coming as snow.
