{Disarmed} Re: Hi from New Member


Thanks to both of you for the info. I think the last map I saw puts my
little corner of Illinois in Zone 5 as well. I think I will mulch the
divided parts of my bed. I'll have to do some looking as I haven't
seen any pine needles for mulch around here... Mine are done blooming
this year. I had a really short season *sigh* We had 80 degrees for a
couple days in early April then just as things started to grow, we got
snow and bitter cold for over a week. I didn't have any lilacs this
year either and the only thing that saved my bleeding hearts was my
dogs ran all over it and it hadn't sprouted yet when we got the snow.
The iris bed I inherited is 2 feet wide by 6-8 foot long and I think I
only had a dozen blooms. Last year was much better, but I'm sure as
badly as it's overgrown doesn't help either. I had someone suggest
planting a ground cover but I'm afraid that will choke out the irises.
Anyway, thanks again for the tips.
