Laurie wrote that she has had good luck with one of the
Chrysographes subseries (is it I. chrysographes?) in her Zone 3
climate. I also had two of the subseries in my previous garden,
also in Zone 3, and they flourished. One was I. chrysographes
(the purple and gold - not the real dark bordering on black) and
the other was I. delavayi. The latter was the tallest iris in my
garden and was a wonderful color.
As far as 'Eric the Red' goes - I gave up on it too soon, me
thinks, but I am really concentrating on Siberians since 1960
for the most part. I do have older bearded irises (Tall Bearded)
since they do so well here and rarely, if ever, rot. I have to
go to the garden with my can of Comet and start trying to do the
Spring-thing with some others.
We need rain...barring that, I will water the beardless today.
Ellen (85 degrees F yesterday and there are still patches of
snow around - but not in my gardens. My mother-in-law still has
snow around her yard)
