black flies

Here in lower Connecticut we too are in a dust bowl and since I divide
in the spring I've been schlepping water like mad.  Unfortunately we
have been blessed with the normal presence of the black flies and they
seem especially attracted to me when I have the watering can.......I can
stand empty handed contemplating what I should do next (or what did I
come out here to do anyway?) and they will leave me alone but with
water......  Anyway, no sign of buds yet but the foliage looks good.
