I think that someone who lives in Zone 7 who grows Siberians well is the best guide.
Having said that, your acid soil is a bonus and so is your mountainous climate (read:
colder nights). We saw Siberians planted like TBs in some gardens....not deep enough
(probably) for the Memphis heat. Anna Mae (I think) said that they need to plant them 3"
deep which is the depth I have always planted mine, too, with plenty of water and mulch. 

A soil analysis to see what you are dealing seems prudent. I use my county Extension
Service and the test is done at the Univ. of NH at a very reasonable rate. Then the soil
preparation and amending (if needed) can be done to give the plants the best start. There
are other considerations like feeding especially if your soil is deficient in certain
nutrients, etc.

Maybe we need to revisit cultural practice in The Siberian Iris - hmmm...another article
for the Fall issue. :-)
