Hello everyone, especially hybridizers!
This is an informal request for plants. I will be mailing a formal request to
individuals shortly.
Here is the opportunity; our society (Iris Society of Minnesota) in
conjunction with AIS Region 8 wants to conduct a Regional Siberian/Species
tour in 2005. Short notice! We did not have time to get this printed in SSI.
At the same time ISM received approval to host the national Siberian/Species
convention
in 2009.
We already have guest/hosts gardens being prepared for August/September
delivery of plants. This provides a special opportunity for hybridizers.
Plants received now could also remain in these beds and be evaluated and seen
after 7 years in the garden!!!!
A separate request for the 2009 national convention will be made at the
proper time (2005 and 2006 etc.)
The garden locations will be in the northern suburbs of the Twin Cities and
55 miles north in Mora MN. where the bloom season will be different allowing
conventioneers to see a wide variety of bloom. Veteran iris growers, many who
already grow collections of Siberians will participate as hosts, for example:
Joan Cooper - former SIGNA Editor and owner of Coopers Gardens.
Jack Worel - Commercial grower with 6 acres of iris
Myself - I grow 200 varieties of Siberians and species
Besides the eight guest beds, the historic bed mention in the Spring '02 TSI
will be added to the list of sites along (still under negotiations) with a
mixed perennial bed with siberians used as the main feature - en masse!
