Hello;
Always glad to hear of people enjoying the photos that I posted to the
"Sibrob File" area that this list has on the egroups website.

To answer your questions.
The photos are taken with a digital camera. Specifically it is one of the
upper end Kodak digital cameras, a model DC290.
Briefly some other details on the camera are as follows;
Four image resolution size settings:
2240 x 1500 pixels
1792 x 1200 pixels
1440 x 960 pixels
720 x 480 pixels
Also on this camera there are four compression level settings that can be
combined with the any of the above sizes:
Uncompressed- totally uncompressed TIFF file type (largest file size)
Best- minimal compressed JPEG file type (larger file size)
Better-moderate compressed JPEG file type (medium file size)
Good- maximal compression JPEG file type (smallest file size)
Thus there are a possible 16 different settings which your photo may be
recorded.
Note that the file size is not a constant at the same settings. The amount
of data needed to be recorded depends on the scene you are photographing.
Example: A picture of trees in autumn will have a larger file size than a
photo of a blue sky with them both being taken at the same settings.
I shot the two photos posted at our files area with the following
combination setting: 720 x 480 with the compression setting on "Best" (i.e.
minimal compression). This produces quite nice results as you can see. A
little larger file results than one would use in a web page but for this
purpose (stashing in our "File Area") it is fine. If I would use them on a
web page I would likely reduce the pixel dimensions and also increase the
compression. I would do this as required using a photo editing program that
has this capability (in my case Adobe Photoshop). Reason for doing this is
to reduce page loading time for viewers.
Hope this helps some people to understand images on the internet a little
more.
Chris.
