There was discussion of this pest some time back and I wanted to give you
the results of my testing of Manage by Monsanto. I bought this at the
recommendation of the Co-op...it's fairly expensive at $10 per mixed gallon
of product, but after using undiluted Round-up with almost no effect I was
getting pretty desperate. I also tried digging it out but that just seemed
to encourage more growth. I'm pleased to report that the Manage absolutely
wiped the yellow nutsedge out after one application. I also test sprayed
(heavily) a Siberian, Louisiana, versicolor, Japanese and an Acorus Calamus
and could detect no noticable damage to the foliage. However, it was very
late in the growing season (around the first of October) so I'll repeat the
test next year in the spring. I'll also keep the plants I sprayed marked and
let you know how they do next year.
