Jack Bilson Jr.
Rosy Hem Garden
Salisbury, NC - zone 7

Good Morning All,

We have used shredded pine bark mulch for Siberian and Japanese Iris for
about 10 years in zones 5,6 and7. It never affected our plants or pH in any
type of negative manner.

We once used some shredded pine bark mulch along with sand to till in to
clay soil to break it up and it worked well. Yes, we did use a little extra
nitrogen in that flower bed, knowing that the break down of the mulch would
deplete some of the nitrogen in the soil.

Cyprus mulch was available to us in Missouri but we never found that it was
as good a weed barrier as the shredded pine bark.

If anyone has a Siberian named COOL SPRINGS available for a trade of
something, please advise. It is an oldie. However, it was my first
non-bearded iris and I want to grow it again for Sentimental reasons.

Take care,
Jack
