Yes, they are brittle when coming out of the freezer, which is why I usually only use one anther to one stigmatic lip.

            For fresh pollen I use the anthers.  I have a set of reverse tweezers and use them to pluck the anther and pollinate using that.  However, for me, when you dry the pollen, the anthers get brittle and will not hold together long enough to pollinate a flower.  I am using the toothpick method sometimes now already and have gotten a few takes off it.
