Re: [SpaceAgeRobin] New Space Agers in Ca.

Hi Chris, and the group at large...........
No problemmo, I've used Howdy Do alot, but with some of my older historics. I think it helps with an older gene pool to get some more interesting crosses.  If you go to the HIPS site you'll probably see some shots of my plantation, LOL. Right now i have a considerable supply of old Austins as My grandmother bought out a section from them when Austin went under. There are around 30 different SA varieties and a score of each scattered around the property, so i can hybridize like crazy now and not work so hard. I am a little bummed about a beautiful deep overall green with gold and silver etching along the edges of the falls, it had a green beard that was tipped in orange. It was ok for 2 years, but the 3rd was the chardm and it reverted back a couple of generaltions to plain medium purple that i haven't id'd yet. I think i have around 200+ new seedlings from past crosses. I also have 53 new seedlings from last years mixture.
For the past few years i've been trying to ID all my HIPS Iris and get them cataloged in my database. Usually i cross both ways to see if they go either way in a solid cross, and i have found that trait in a few matches.
I buy new SA's whenevr i see ones that tweak my interest in a possible matchup with one of my older ones that i'm always looking for a certain color blending.
All i can say is, Iris have been in the family for generations and i'm the latest to grow and hybridize. Hopefully, i'll be introducing some of them soon to the SA Iris world...

More photos posted as i get them scanned and cataloged.

Ciao ya'll, oh yeah, smaller in what way? I can go back to photoshop and redo some of them.
I can send a bigger res file for better clarity. I think i sent you some of the redone ones that got sent to people who have a slow dialup and can't handle huge dat files of 2-500kb or more.

  Anyway, let me know..........

Hi Mike,

First of all, I'll like to welcome you to the SA Robin.  Don't be shy to tell us a little bit more about yourself and your hybridizing goals. Judging from some of the seedlings you've just shared us, it looks as if you'll fit right in.  We're a friendly group so don't be shy.

So what SA's have you been using for your crosses.  Some of your seedlings look very Austin like in form and appendages.

Oh yeah, do you think you could send us some smaller photos of these seedlings ?  The ones you sent are way too big to see clearly.

Once again, welcome to the group.
Chris
