Re: [SpaceAgeRobin] SOLAR FIRE

AND YET...

It is STILL a pretty flower despite no flounces.

You see, that is the one main contention I feel is important with Space Age irises.  IMHO, I feel they MUST be a pretty flower with a nice form WITHOUT appendages.

There are several varieties out there (and a few in my garden) that are just horrible without appendages.  They keep getting introduced, and the pictures are fantastic with the perfect appendages, but they are not consistently that way and the form is usually narrow hafted, so they don't look as nice.

Subject: [SpaceAgeRobin] SOLAR FIRE

It didn't take long for SOLAR FIRE to start dropping the flounces.  What the
blooms are showing now is a yellow spot below the beard where the flounce
should.  Looks like a scar where it was removed.  The first three blooms had
flounces.  The two following had one flounce each and the scar.  Now they
are all just showing the scar.  My Tbird seedling has the last bloom open
today.  Four buds will dry up.  But none of those that opened missed having
that appendage.  That's a first for any SA here.  So far EAGLE CONTROL is
holding on to the horns.  Maybe it will keep them through all the bloom.  I
tried to get pods on SF via the seedling and the reciprocal cross and used
the seedling on EC, but conditions aren't good here for getting takes.  And
the pollen didn't look great either.  I'll know in a week or so if there's a
chance.
