Re: SOLAR FIRE X (THORNBIRD x unknown) #4

Here's #4. Not a hint of any appendage. This still has more buds to open,
but even one without the appendages is a failure. Especially if it's the
terminal bud where I'm accustomed to seeing the best display of appendages
on the SAs. It also didn't have as much damage from the dogs as #3, but
more than #1 or #2. Grew pretty well, but this stalk is staked to keep it
standing up. The other stalk is leaning, but is caught by the foliage and
staying more or less upright for the time being. Probably will fall. I'm
surprised it didn't after last night.

All four have the same color range and general appearance. There is another
sibling of these with a bloomstalk. I'm really surprised because it's one
of several the dogs completely dug up more than once. As a result the
rhizomes were exposed though some roots were still growing in the soil and I
didn't notice it for a long, long time. It will be a short stalk and only
the one stalk. Guess I'll see what it has to offer. I think these will be
all that bloom this year, but there's a possibility of one more blooming.
Getting pretty late here for that now, though.

Very soft focus on this photo. No chance to take it in better light yet.
Might have a better chance this weekend, but probably won't post it unless
some kind of appendage or deformity shows up.
