Neil, Not too clear on what you are asking here. The petaloid is a
reverse of the petel(fall) it is seperating from. i.e. top of flounce
matches underside of fall and bottom of flounce matches surface color of
the fall which is left with a small strip of non-pigmentation at the
point of seperation. Are you also asking about any relationships (by
color) with any part of the standards or stigma?

P.S. My own thinking of the moment is that petaloids are related to the
"swelling" or stiffness of the fall spine(FS) and that the height of the
beard spine (BS) relates to developing beard extentions. The instance
where the area under the beard has both height and "swelling" indicates
a potential for developing combinations of horn and petaloid such as
seen in CANARY FEATHERS.
