Re: HYB: Sass line origin of the Horns, Spoons, etc.

Hi Diana,

I may have your photo on my PC here at work, I'll have to search for
it and post later if I find it. I sent your photos to Mary Hess At
Blue Haven for identification but she never got back to me. I assume
it didn't ring a bell. She apparently inherited much of the old
Austin cultivars from Mrs Austin and is still in the process of
identifying unknowns. I wish her internet site was working but it
hasn't for a long time.

Now on to SAGE. It stands for Space Age Genetics Effort/Experiment,
I'm not sure what the last letter stands for, Bill can probably tell
you though.

The idea is for the 15 or so of us that volunteered to make identical
crosses with the same breeders and raise large numbers of seedlings
in similar growing conditions with the same pH. We plan to keep
detailed notes on the percentages of embellishments , whether proto
horned, shelfed, horned, spooned, flounced and variations of these.

There's much more information in the archives, plus many posts where
we discussed the possible candidates to the program. We've narrowed
it down to about 10 SA's so far but appear to have stalled at the
selection of the other non SA breeders for the project.

Neil is working on an AIS bulletin article to introduce the
experiment so it can gain exposure and possibly greater participation.

Do you have land Diana ? Are you willing to participate in SAGE ?

Good to have you back,
Chris
