Hello everybody, First I gotta say that Mikes seedling is very very nice, love
those appendages, and the color contrast with the standards.
Chris brought up SAGE. I mentioned this fall that I made alot of
crosses. Much more than I intended, and I managed to get them all planted
(or sent to others). I ended up planting 144 in 1 1/2 gal pots of crosses I
made, and 11 pots of crosses from Patrick, lot's of work. I sent a good deal
more seed to a local friend who wants to grow them. I'm sure some of these
crosses will be involving parents mentioned in SAGE. I'm not quite sure what
Non SA parents were ever decided. I used Quito, since someone (maybe
Mike) mentioned it not to throw SA. Crossed it with Honey scoop (twice), and
mesmerizer. Too many to mention all of them and why right now. A few that
I'm really excited about: Solar Fire X Brazenberry (does great here 11buds,
excellent all around), Eagle Control X Wintry Sky, Triple Whammy X Mythology
(for the beards), Voltage X Solar fire, Ozark Rebounder X Grand Style (dark SA
plic. Ozark rebounder is Hello Darkness X Epicenter). A pretty wide cross is:
Thornbird X Wintry Sky, no telling how that will turn out? Pretty sure I posted
a list of all the crosses last fall. The pots are outside getting their winter
leaching and will be moved into a flower house in a few weeks. We've been
having a drought, so I've had to water them.
I have some seedlings that had good growth and could possibly bloom from
last years crosses, some look hopeful. Most all SA on atleast one side.
Later this month, I'm going to do a powerpoint presentation for my
local club on SA iris, showing CV's that I've grown and seedlings and of
course the Monsters. It covers the last couple years and all the pics are one's
I've taken, some were posted on here, and Iris photo's. First time I've done
something like this, nervous/excited. Kinda got "volunteered" into doing it.
I can't wait for spring. I saw a crocus coming up today and daffodils up 2".
Too bad it was 14deg. this morning. Already thinking about crosses this
spring. Hope the Blyth and Ghio stuff blooms.

participants grew and voted for to use in the program. As you know, there
was 3 or 4 different sections involving many cultivars which may be too
overwhelming for the average hobby gardener to take on. This is why I
suggested reducing the scope to possibly encourage more participation. As
of right now, interest in the project seems to be dangerously low and I'm not
too sure many people made any crosses in the SAGE directing this year
using the suggested breeders. Of course, as we all know, planning crosses
and actually getting the plants bloom and pollinated is a completely
different story. My SAGE crosses from last year involved MESMERIZER, which
I believe is one of the backup breeders. I'll have to concult the document to
be sure since my mind is like a seive ;-)

is continues to heat up and rain and then freeze again. My Irirses are sitting
under about 2 feet of solid ice at the moment. I also had a huge Birch tree
blow over on to the main seedling bed so there's a lot of cleaning up to do
but not until April when some of the snow melts. A move to California
sounds fantastic, count me in as well. One thing is for sure, I will NOT
spend the rest of my like in the Arctic like winter climate. Whether I can
afford to move to California is a completely different matter ;-)
