Patrick;

 To expand on Neil's statement, last years crosses will require 2 years to see if their stable and another 2 years for increases to allow sharing. No need to rush to commitment for most of us.

Another important factor to be gained by such an exchange is to test for consistency in climate zones 4-10. To my  recollection we only have 1(one) Cv, CARNIVAL, that is consistent throughout that range.

The more variables we can reduce the easier it will be to create a genetic model. I find the reports on mutations and chimeras important because they reveal genetic make-up that would normally be supressed.

Subject: [SpaceAgeRobin] A suggestion

Dear SAGE team:

Bill Burleson has made a suggestion that caught my imagination.  I think it is a great idea--even though it is still a while until this could be implemented.

Bill suggests that we select one of the SA seedlings out of our first work, distribute it and all of us use it for another step forward--along with the developing plan of crosses to sort out the genetics.

Those that have already been making SA crosses for some time could begin this process any time.  Those of us just starting may have a bit of delay getting a seedling up to where there would be enough increase to share rhizomes around.

 This is certainly one more way in which we could get a single, in-common, cross with the same parents--by crossing this seedling with something we all have...and I'm sure as we do trades around, or weed through the massive number of things offered on the market and find some that all of us think are superior for our purposes, that we *will* all have at least one, and perhaps several, varieties in common.

I think this sounds like fun!  What d'yall think of this idea?
