[SpaceAgeRobin] Bloom Report z7

Hi all!

For what it's worth, I'll toss the tiny bit of information I have
from the one year of growing I had in VA into the pot.

These were all 1st-year plants, in a new bed, in fresh soil
(previously lawn). pH was on the acid side of neutral - I don't have
an exact read, but probably about 6.5. Zone 7a, central VA. No mulch,
no weeds (I didn't have many then, so was able to keep up), but
probably some root competition from the large swamp oak and magnolia
next to the beds. The year they were planted was a drought and they
were watered in when I planted them and once more, that's it. The
following spring/summer was cool and WET. (Remember the National in
N. VA?)

THORNBIRD - consistent horns, every bloom on the stalk.
MESMERIZER - consistent flounces, every bloom on the stalk.
TIME TRAVELER - consistent bald horns (1/2"+ long), every bloom on
the stalk. This one was also getting some shade from the house and
swamp oak. It was a small fan that shocked me when it threw up a
stalk at all!

I had a historic noid from my grandmother that had protohorns on
every bloom, too.

Now we're in NE Ohio, zone 5b, so once I see what things decide to do
here, I'll post it. But it will be a few years before I can put "2+"
on anything here. This coming spring will be "1" again. *Sigh!*

Diana
in NE Ohio, where we're enjoying a couple of days of unbelievable
warmth for January - low 60's today! But that ends tonight.
Tomorrow's high will be 40 degrees colder!
