CANAVERAL may not have been selected because not enough of us have it to
start with but it's  fertile both ways and produces nice seed big pods."

I didn't mean to limit our crosses so tightly.  The ones I listed are more "suggestions" than "rules."  We're still in the stage of collecting anecdotal information in SAGE, and this information about 'Canaveral' is very useful.  Limiting our crosses to varieties used in common is important, but finding the *right* in-common cv's is an important first step.  This thread about 'Canaveral' is an example of information we need to share.

Consistency across climates will help us a lot in eliminating uncontrolled variables.  I've been really concerned about what we have learned--that climate has such a strong effect on most varieties.  Finding some that are at least fairly consistent from Quebeck to So. California will be a strong advantage in our work.

At this point, I'd say that 'Canaveral' is in a category of--"find it and get it" for those of us that don't already have it.  We need to keep watching for more like this.
