Re: CANAVERAL and common use nominations

Couple of stock updates......I found a bit of Canaveral in a neglected stock area so we will have plenty next year.  Barbara's Lace is growing so well that I can offer it to sage members next year... but will still keep it out of the catalog for stock increase.  don't know if that is important to anyone but thought I should mention it.  California Dreamin' has nicely consistent appendages here, am curious if it will do the same elsewhere.  I have noticed that iris that make large fans and large rhizomes here seem to have more consistency with their appendages elsewhere, will have to follow this more seriously over the next few years.  Canaveral makes very large rhizomes here, so does Grand Circle, one of George's new ones.  will have to follow it's performance around the world.

I didn't mean to limit our crosses so tightly.  The ones I listed are more "suggestions" than "rules."  We're still in the stage of collecting anecdotal information in SAGE, and this information about 'Canaveral' is very useful.  Limiting our crosses to varieties used in common is important, but finding the *right* in-common cv's is an important first step.  This thread about 'Canaveral' is an example of information we need to share.
 
Consistency across climates will help us a lot in eliminating uncontrolled variables.  I've been really concerned about what we have learned--that climate has such a strong effect on most varieties.  Finding some that are at least fairly consistent from Quebeck to So. California will be a strong advantage in our work.
