Re: Re: [SpaceAgeRobin] Help! I need pollen

Hi Chris, I've been harvesting pods for a couple days. I hope to be done
today. It looks like I'm going to have a lot of work ahead of me. I'm
using the paper bag method. I have no idea where I would put this
many cups and keep them from getting knocked over. I just hope I
bought enough lunch bags for all the pods. I thought some of these
would fail, but it looks like most didn't. When they dry, I'm going to go
through my list and note how many seeds, and delete those that did fail.
I'll post an update then. If I can't find any pollen for the Blyth iris, I'll
either self them or cross the two. I've got a couple weeks, maybe
someone will hurry and rebloom, it finally rained. I'm lucky that both
that are trying to bloom do have other increase, so they shouldnt bloom
out. Your seedling cross sounds like a good one. Thanks for letting me
know I was too late to catch your season, I thought I might be, but
wanted to check.
Thanks Again.
Will W.

Will,

Too bad, FRENCH HORN just finished blooming 3 days ago but now it's
shriveled up.  I would have gladly collected some pollen for you if you had
asked a few days earlier.  As for collected pollen, I have never made a
sucessful cross using stored or mailed pollen.  Maybe I've just been
unlucky.

Enjoy your bloom stalks but be careful that it doesn't cause the rhizome to
bloom out.  Have you harvested any of your pods yet ?   I made a few last
minute crosses last weekend with no expectations and got 4 new pods.  One on
MESMERIZER x FRENCH HORN,  and two seedlings of ((BLACKOUT x HONKY TONK
BLUES) x (THORNBIRD x TRIPLE WHAMMY))  I'll be curious as to what type of
appendage ratio I get from these seedlings since BLACKOUT supposedly has the
SA inhibiting gene.

Chris
