{Disarmed} Re: [SpaceAgeRobin] Re: Flat Space Agers

Jim,

I can tell you which flatties have worked for me so far.  As a general rule "all" flats are pollen sterile by virtue of not having anthers.  The flats that I have seen produce pollen are:
Judy Mogil (I think)
Unfurled Flag

The flatties which have set pods for me are:

Six Pack
Rhythm
White Parasol
Little Freak*
Judy Mogil *
Unfurled Flag*
Pom Pon Two
Clelmatis
*being the most reliably fertile

Either Flopsy or No-top or both have set pods which rotted due to water held in the bloom.  Amarylis has the same problem and possibly Pom Pon Two.

If memory serves, New Perspective, and Gazoo are rumored to be both pollen and pod fertile, but I don't have either yet so can't say for sure.  Doubt either would advance a SA line.

For a flat SA strain I believe that Fimbriated Space and sibling Free Space will be critical because they have a very high "dosage" of flat in their pedigree.  (FimSpace has the overlapping style seam I mentioned yesterday.) Pom Pon Two and Cut Crystal, pod mates of Pom Pon One - which is described as having flounces-, should also play key roles.  The Rudolph intros also add in rarely seen plicata genes.

I think all of the above mentioned are availiable through Riverview, although not all necisarily in the same year.  Oh, and Riverview just intro-d a new flat...two years ago... which I think has SA genes.... Tugs the Heartstrings. (If it's not Tugs with the SA genes then it's something Moonscape intro from Argyle Acres about the same time)  I have two plants labeled Tugs but only one has so far bloomed for me, and it was an imposter.

So now you know practically everything I know.  Race ya!  lol

Christian

I have had one seedling to bloom from Fimbriated Space X Thornbird which was traditional in form and did not show SA traits.  I think it was stunted by the freeze and I wouldn't expect it to show SA its first year since TB didn't.  So as yet I don't have any proof of my pudding... or is it pudding for my proof.

I have a few other crosses that might be indirectly relevant but none to bloom yet.

Hello Christian <I was wondering if you had tried  crossing the flatties with the S A,? This interests me  and I wonder  if you or  Chris could tell  me which of the flatties are either  both pod or polin fertle .. I have quite a few S A I would like to   experiment with .in this regard   All so which supplier  would you reccomend .?    Jim Rohrer
