RE: [SpaceAgeRobin] RE: Species history

The original refference to Heinrich, unfortunatly was not listed. I always like to look at the original for pieces of extra information. I will keep alert for it.

I have a different take on the origins of the plicata alleles and have several projects lined up which should help to help clarify this. One is a cross of I variegata reginae X pallida, which I think in first generation will produce dark purple selfs, not unlike some of the darker forms of "pallida" Now for plants and weather to co-operate. Interestly, Mostar and Kupari forms of pallida are the closest pallida in location to the source of reginea, and at the southern most end of the pallida natural species location.

A closer look at my Swerti , in photos, show spathes of flowering plant to be only partially scalarious, and brown colour, not wholly scalarious or silvery as in pallida definition.

A few other possible surprises up the sleve.

Right here the crocuses planted over the septic tank are in bloom. Its always warmer over the septic tank.

>Chuck, I am particularly grateful you posted that, as that adds considerable depth to what information I've had about SA origins. "*I. pallida,* and from the dates I'm assuming these were diploid cultivars that Heinrich made the comment about. Since *pallida* also is the probable source of the plicata allelic series, it is not surprising the emergence of SA's has been more common among *pallida*-rich, plicata-carrying or showing, cultivars.
