Chuck, I am particularly grateful you posted that, as that adds considerable depth to what information I've had about SA origins.  "*I. pallida,* and from the dates I'm assuming these were diploid cultivars that Heinrich made the comment about.  Since *pallida* also is the probable source of the plicata allelic series, it is not surprising the emergence of SA's has been more common among *pallida*-rich, plicata-carrying or showing, cultivars.
