This year it has not made any
difference whatever method I used nothing worked. It rained at
night and pollen was no good till afternoon. By then the fresh blooms were too
old. Last year almost all iris were dug. I did not have a lot of blooms to work
with.
All together 175+ crosses with about 12
pods. Most of the crosses I made were not expected to take with the
conditions they were made under. Last
year the brushes I used were soft hair type but I cut them off to ¼". This made
them very stiff. I believe I was damaging the stigmatic lip with them.
This year I used stamens.
Last year I had pretty good germination,
400 out of 550 seeds. I save most of those pots and got one seedling from second
year germination. This year I got 220 out of 600 seeds.
With health problems this year I
only made two trips to the farm( 25 miles one way). I missed most of the TB
bloom and SDBs were pure dogs. The weeds are doing super.
