If the weather is 70 degrees or less and I force open the bud and 
pollinate when the stigmatic lips show the first signs of being 
receptive, I get nice cuke shaped pods with a high proportion of mature 
seeds. If the cross takes on more mature blooms then I get more the 
banana shape with fewer mature seeds and immature seeds at pointed ends. 
Crosses in the 70 to 80 degree temps tend to follow the above pattern 
but are usually smaller. Pods formed when temps are 80 plus tend to fail 
or be mini pumpkins with 4-8 fully mature seeds and no seed bits.
