It's me again ;-)
I was doing a quick evaluation in the seedling bed yesterday and
noted that Thornbird seedlings in general are really quite pitiful
growers. Some of these seedlings have been around for years and have
never increased or bloomed despite repeated fertilizations. Of
particular note are the Thornbird x Triple Whammy and Thornbird x
Sky Hooks seedlings. Having said all this about Thornbird, I have
encountered some seedlings that go have average to good growth but
they seem to be far and few between.
My new "mix and match" seedlings that have only Honey Scoop as the
pod or pollen parent have been growing like wild fire. I was
beginning to lose faith in the vision that I could successfully grow
and bloom SA seedlings but now I feel encouraged. I actually found
about a dozen seedlings that put on growth similar to what Mike
Greenfield gets with his seedlings.
I figure growth like this combined with a good Cygon treatment should
get me back on the road to enjoying bloom season once again up here
in the North.
Anybody growing anything particularly vigorous from SA breeding that
could be noted ? Vigor seems to me to be one of the most important
qualities for a cold climate plant.
