Nan,
A new idea was suggested to me that I am trying this year - came from a
friends grandfather - he uses wire frames, not chicken wire but a
hardware cloth with the holes big enough to put his hand through. He
said he just puts the wire frame around the plant, the plant climbs the
sides and then he can just reach through the holes to pick the
tomatoes. As I am writing this, I am thinking he must use some type of
stakes to hold the sides up under the weight of the tomato plant. I
thought it sounded like a good, inexpensive idea so I am trying it this
year. I hope I explained this well enough so you can picture what I am
talking about. Tell me if not - I'll try again!
