Hi all,
I have a difficult time with thinning. Kind of like leaving food on the plate
uneaten. But that is another problem. I no longer thin, but plant totally
differently. I plant everthing in those plastic pony pack containers, and
when they are large enough, I plant out the seedlings. I use the larger
packs for things like beans and corn and cuke, etc, and the tiny ones for
lettuce, tomatoes and peppers, and beets. The only thing I plant directly
into the ground now is carrots. I have a medium to small garden, about 40 by
40 feet, so I can spend the time doing this. I sow seed inside in the
evening while watching the telly.
By doing this, I only sow a little more than I need, and any seedlings that
are in excess, I give away. In this manner, I only keep and set out the
strongest seedlings, and I get perfect spacing. I also can begin sowing
things in packs while the ground is still in use for the end of something
else.
