Hi Janet
I grow in 4 foot wide beds too. They aren't raised much yet, but will be as
more stuff gets added each year.
I have paths made of old hessian backed, wool carpet (not foam rubber or
nylon) covered in a 2 inch layer of straw.
I also use thick newspapers laid overlapping along the paths with straw on
top.
Both work very well. The carpet just needs more straw adding each spring
and the newspaper/straw is renewed each spring.
Sure helps cut down on the weeding.
Regards
Stephen
