Hi Folks--
My tomatoes are booming now too, the plants are beginning to look a little
tired, but the fruit keeps coming. I've posted a subjective review of the
6 varieties I grew this year up at my Website--you can read all about it at:
<http://vegetablegarden.miningco.com/library/weekly/mcurrent.htm>
The varieties are: Dona, Italia, Early Girl, Stupice, Sweet Million, and
Gardener's Delight.
Dona has been a surprise success-huge shapely slicers with great tomato
flavor, and the Stupice ( from Eastern Europe, early and very fog tolerant)
--fruit is small but yummy and abundant.
Duncan, you're welcome to the tomato images on that feature page if you
want to link to them in any way on your upcoming Vegetable Garden Pages.
I'm happy with how they turned out, done directly from photos I shot of my
own harvest.
My Provider bush string beans are growing well so far, I've never tried
planting them for a fall crop here in Berkeley, CA--I guess it depends on
how much heat we get in September and Oct. Carrots are ready, scallions
are getting thick, salad greens looking ok. Time to start some
broccoli--anyone have any heat tolerant favorite varieties? It seems to me
like the early season broccolis are generally sweeter, but maybe its the
imagined sweetness of spring. Time to plant some leek seed, more lettuce
etc. etc. Already find myself thinking about what I'll do differently next
year.
