I have also grown without regard to timing this past summer an onion called
candy with no long/short day requirements. i have not harvested any yet,
but
they are forming nice but smaller bulbs -- thus far about 2 to 3 inches, but
they are still growing, tho I think they are almost at max size.

This year, I grew onions for the first time. I grew Candy because they were
advertised as not being a long or short day variety and I thought that gave an
amateur like me a better chance. Anyway, they grew beautifully and ended up
about 3-4" in diameter.
The only problem I had was that some were damaged by root magots. Any ideas
on how to deter these? I'd prefer to not use chemicals if possible.
Thanks
Tom
