Re: tomatoes and stuff.

Well, now I think I will pipe in too, since there is another So cal person
here.

My tomatoes look great, except my tomatoes persist in staying green. I
planted a couple of different varieties that I bought from a nursery this
october, so they haven't seen a good summer yet. I went on a retreat to
the mountains the other weekend, and forgot to ask my husband to cover them
from the potential frost! However, there seems to be a patch of
micro-climate where I planted my tomatoes and the frost missed them (the
just got a few marigolds a few feet away.) Whew!

My broccoli is ready to harvest. I had to pick off the green caterpillars
every other day, but they made it. however, my Cauliflower is not doing
anything but sitting there. Why? Any suggestions?

I've got several varieties of lettuce. They have been the star producers.

However, i couldn't get any carrots (heirlooms) or spinach to sprout! Why
is this?

My peas are all coming up, (sugar and snow) but they are slooooow growing.
I picked the first snow pea and it was tough! I am not sure why.

This is my first stab at winter gardening. I am very thankful for the
amazing soil in my back yard. The ph is just right and it is rich and
dark, hardly any rocks. I wasn't looking for that when i got our house,
but now I think it is one of my favorite things about this place.
