Hi, Stan. The 'tapes' I was talking about are cables, like thick cords
(as
thick as an outdoor-use extension cord), and you can bury them in the
soil
without a enclosing it in a pipe. I know you can use them outdoors in a
cold frame (mine is just a portable wooden box, with sloping sides and a
back wall taller than the front, and an old window sash for a lid), so
probably you could put them right into a garden bed. I am going to look
through a few books and see if anyone has done it before and written
about it.

Allright Sheila, now we're cookin. I just know that we are going to come
up with something good. If enough people chip in with their ideas, we
may end up with a growing season 12 months long.
I just thought of another idea that is too stupid to mention until I
try it out first.
I will get back to you even if it doesn't work. Who knows, it may
inspire other ideas.
Stan. The cheap and lazy gardener.
