My grandfather was from another age, in which the land and its resources
were treated as a neverending supply of material to support human
endeavor.  Thus, he shot groundhogs and crows as a form of "pest
control".  And I suppose more of us would do so if we were close to
starvation at times (as he was) and if we didn't have huge machines to
tear up the earth for us.  And if we didn't have huge factories
supplying plant and animal materials to us in such a way that we don't
have to witness the moral and physical damage they do (e.g. pesticide
and herbicide laden monocrop farms or 100,000-bird egg factories).

(Just a little sermon this morning... sorry.)
