I couldn't resist sending this on from another list. I doubt if
anyone has to contend with slugs in a greenhouse but just in case
of a major goof ..... you can try this.

In 1987, Colorado State University Entomology Professor Whitney
Cranshaw had his students conduct a test for the beer most
favored by local
slugs:
Here's the results of that experiment. Note Budweiser was
choosen as the
test standard and the number of slugs choosing bud represented
one Bud Unit
1.00.
Bud Light ............................. .89
Budweiser 1.00
Coors ................................ .56
Coors Light .79
Fort Collins Colorado tap water ....... .06
Gallo Pink Chablis .09
Kingsbury Malt Beverage ............... 1.14
Michelob 1.04
Miller ............................... .68
Miller Lite .57
Old Milwaukee ......................... .81
Schaefer .69
Sugar-water and yeast ................ .57
Thus the correct answers to the trivia question are: Kingbury
Malt Beverage
and Michelob.
No winners but interesting suggestions for inclusion into future
testing.
Bambi wants Heinekin and Ginny wants Castle Lager. Maybe I can
get Nicole
into letting me run a test this summer?? My only problem is that
we have
such nicely draining soil we rarely have any slugs. Typical of
research
experiments; as soon as you want to investigate a pest you begin
to have
trouble finding the pest.
