My rosemary is a small "tree", with a "trunk" about 2 1/2 inches in
diameter. It's probably about 3 feet tall. It is potted in a BIG
terra-cotta container.
During the summer, it lives on my deck, which gets a full southern exposure
and is probably too hot for it. It gulps gallons of water and starts
looking pretty fried. This year I'm going to move it out into a gentler
part of the yard.
During the winter it also lives on the deck. I don't water it at all, but
we get enough rain that I don't have to worry about it. It sits right next
to the house and stays reasonably warm.
I haven't officially trimmed it, but harvest whole branches as needed, and
it keeps growing. It truly resembles a small tree. In fact, my significant
other, who is into Bonsai, keeps looking at it hungrily and wanting to shape
it and train it as a Bonsai. I may let him do so-- in which case I'll go
buy some more rosemary, because I love the spice. My favorite are
oven-roasted potatoes with chopped garlic, good olive oil, and fresh
rosemary.
