Hi Beth,
If you know where Bristol is Newark is approx 250 miles North East of
there about 60 miles from the East coast. Probably in American terms
that's your next door neighbour but in England that's a long way away!
... :-)
When we get round to creating our small pond and hope to attract some
wild life we will have to try and distract our cats from it as they love
frogs and fish and take every opportunity to play with them!
I grew some peppers last year in my greenhouse. Some years it has been
warm enough to grow things like that outside but last year was terrible.
The south of England would be a better bet.
Last year we had just started a small area for vegetables but we managed
to produce runner beans (climbing), potatoes (earlies and maincrop),
tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, courgettes, a few melons, lettuce, onions,
beetroot, carrots, a few herbs.
Most of our Brussels, cabbage and cauliflower's were decimated by slugs.
We are still eating the potatoes and runner beans (frozen).
We plan to grow a lot more this year as I am in the process of clearing
the area to get my full 6 beds. Small, not enough to be self sufficient
but enough work to keep me happy out side.
Bob.
