Re: spuds

Dear Lorraine & Kristin:

You might be interested to know that The Farmer's Almanac publishes a
list of commonly grown vegetables and suggests when they should be
planted according to the cycles of the moon and your local frost free
date, at least the edition available here in Western New York does. I
suppose that when the moon is on the wane, it is beneficial to root
crops, or crops that grow down into the earth, such as carrots and
potatoes. When the moon is waxing, the gravitational pull benefits
above-ground crops such as corn and lettuce. I suppose if the moon is
powerful enough to affect the tide, it could be of some help to us
gardeners.

I wish I could plant something outside now!
