hi,
to answer a question on carrots, i have found that sandy soil is better
for root crops overall. i have had great success with carrots in nearly
total sand that made up my veggie garden for several years. this year
and last, i got some really juicy sweet baby carrots. this year, i have
had great luck with beets as well and they are so tender and good. i
have yet to try my potatoes, but they are looking nice too. all are
grown in sand that was amended with compost.
on fruits growing on vines, i am not sure that most people see cucumbers
as fruits, but i love to have those grow up fences so that i can see them
better then when they hide under leaves on the ground. i have had great
luck with them this year as well. just picked 3 this morning.
happy gardening,
cindi
